I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to campaign and run for school board. Overnight, concerned parents and neighbors figured out how to run a campaign so we could better advocate for our students and schools, and I couldn’t be more proud of their effort. Neighbors, friends, and family members stepped into various roles- creating a logo and marketing materials, making door knocking maps, dedicating Thursdays and weekends to distributing palm cards at farmers’ markets, handling finances, being campaign manager, running communications, building and managing a website, and so much more. The amount of time and energy necessary to run a campaign takes an army of devoted and skilled collaborators.
I’m so grateful to each of you who helped along this journey; sacrificing and navigating this unfamiliar domain with the sole purpose of protecting our students’ safety and educations. I sincerely enjoyed meeting Alexandrians and amplifying your voices and concerns. Whether we agreed or disagreed on certain topics, I am grateful for the democratic process to elect the people who we want to represent us.
Congratulations to all of the candidates and their families who stepped up and tried to make a difference by running. I can now fully appreciate the sacrifice and work that goes into running a campaign and it has forever changed my perspective.
We live in such a wonderful city full of charm, history, diversity, and immense appeal. Alexandria deserves to imbue the best in education that our state and country has to offer.
Going forward, may our elected leaders have the wisdom, leadership, empathy, and conviction to put the needs of our students first and the willingness to listen to the concerns of parents, teachers, and administrators.
Thank you for this opportunity and life-changing experience, for which I am incredibly grateful. Although my school board candidacy has come to an end, my advocacy for our students and schools will continue to be unwavering and I look forward to continuing this journey with you!
ISH BOYLE FOR ALEXANDRIA
SCHOOL BOARD (DISTRICT A)
Welcome to Ish For ACPS
Our students deserve the opportunity to be in school five days a week, and to receive a quality education. The last year plus has tested our students, teachers, administrators, and families. Addressing the developmental, social, and educational challenges these groups have faced are a priority moving forward.
In talking with administrators and principals, I know that Alexandria is facing teacher attrition in numbers that we have never seen. Our City needs to be recruiting the very best talent to enhance the education and meet the varying needs of our children.
We also need to recognize, fully support, and retain the excellent teachers who have been working extremely hard in ACPS.
I'm concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability of the Superintendent and current School Board during this crisis. When I am elected in November, I will work collaboratively with my School Board colleagues to ensure that the voices of students, families, teachers, and administrators are heard and represented in every meeting and every policy decision.
I welcome your questions, ideas and support. Thank you for your input and help toward giving Alexandria students the excellent educations and school experiences they deserve.
